Is Chuck Todd for real? How could anyone take seriously Chuck Todd's campaign to have FOX fire or suspend Glenn Beck? Does he not watch MSNBC?
Who is Todd to define who is a journalist and who isn't? Todd exemplifies very well all that is wrong with msm. He is biased, he doesn't think he is, and I'm sure he would offer some lame rationalization to support the propisition that Olbermann's gross excesses are excusable, but Beck's are not. Todd only confirms that we who do not watch MSNBC are right not to waste our time.
Leave Chuckycheese alone, Glen Beck has lost it. Glen is only trying to become another Rush, but I think he has a little Ann Coulter in him, she looks like him. Glen Beck should be baned!
Wilson,
"Baned" means killed with poison. I'm used to you lefties being rather nasty but don't you think that is a little over the line?
I agree with you. NBC can't stand the fact that Glenn Beck speaks the truth and they lie to protect GE's interests.
If you are so "FOX" oriented, then what are you doing here???
conservatives are trying to get nbc and the other main stream media to report both sides objectively. this is not about republicans or democrats. it about saving our freedom. our constitution is under attack by the obama administration. do the research yourself. don't take anyone''s word. obama himself during the campaign said to judge him by whom he surrounded himself with. well, his czars are a bunch of marxists, socialists and chicago thugs. remember, they are not cleared by the legislative branch. why is that? could it be they couldn't get clearance? go to www.glenbeck.com and look at the videos of van jones in his own words. look at videos of the diversity czar, rahm immanuels brother and some of the other czars. what does this say about obama? no one has sued fox news for libel. what does that say? read michelle malkin's book, culture of corruption. but inform yourself. don't just rely on someone else's words. do the research. this is the most dangerous time in american history. nbc news, don't you realize that if obama's radical agenda goes through, you will eventually lose the freedom of the press. that's what marxist and socialists do -- control the media.
why is everyone saying Obamas camp is trying to control the medi?. Everyone who is not agreeing with his policies are bashing the administration. Just because we have free speech in this country doesn't mean we should absolutely make an idiot of ourselves and say things that will probably come bac to haunt us in the future just to prove or make a point. All the talk has done is tear people further apart. I don't respect journalists for going over board wth their antics to get the public to see things their way.
Chuck Todd is eminently qualified to opine about Glen Beck as Todd is a journalist, someone wsho objectively reports the news without including his personal political opinions on the subhject. Glen Beck IS a commontator and NOT a journalist. Unfortunately, the line between the two is often blurred at Fox and as a result Fox's audience is highly misinformed on many subjects especially when it takes the lilkes of Glen Beck as a reporter of hard news, and worse, the truth. It wouldn't be such a big deal except for the fact that the3 Fox News audience probably.......VOTES!!!
Commentator or not, I'll take comments on ACORN if the majors won't even mention it. What's the deal? A missing grad student, while tragic for all involved, trumps corruption and waste of YOUR tax dollars (if you actually pay vs. accept a refund)?
Come on guys, I expect more from a major network!
While I don't care for Keith O's manner, he usually lets the right ridicule itself by showing an exhibit A video vs an exhibit B that illustrates the dishonesty in their propaganda. I've never seen Beck back up any of his bombast - it's mostly one lie supported by another lie that appeals to the very worst bias in America.
I watched Keith Olberman's special comment tonight, and he continues to tell us things we did not know about Health Care and Death, esp how his own father has fought the last 8 weeks. I want all those without health care to have some, like I have had the last 33 years with my county public library system. Now retired, I pay twice as much as I did in June 09, but I and my wife are covered. My 40 year old son has no insurance most of his adult life and he does not go the emergency room. He goes without and his feet, back and mental health are wearing down. Keith is right about all of us needing medicare or what you presently have. We are all tring to live!
The big difference is that Olbermann deals in facts and when he's giving an opinion he says so.
This answer was intended for Philo Cavecci. I must have been microsofted.
so the military can assist civilian authorities in the case of a swine flu pandemic. i thought the military was supposed to protect me, not kill me if i get the swine flu and want to leave the area i live in. this also smells of mandatory vaccinations. why hasnt the media started to talk about that. 911 and the swine flu are manufactured things by the united states government and the american people need to wake up to those facts. just to let everybody know, the military will kill me before they stick a needle in my arm. this is nazism and someone try to disagree with that.
David, What a pathetic post. I'm almost 80 and in all my life I've never known Americans to be such utter whining wusses. Cheney, Rush, Beck, et al. can say the most ridiculous thing and far too many quake and cry in fear. Always some boogie man is after them - swine flu vac., death panels, zombies, liberals, etc.
We used to stand tall, make rational decisions, and move forward. Forget the terrorist goal to scare us we are doing it to ourselves - a new America trembles over any whim. Now you are prostrate over the thought of a vaccination. BOO! Why not try to be a man for a change?
You know more than all the health/medical/epidemiology professionals about ? NOT!
Today, ExxonMobil posted a 62% loss compared to the same quarter last year. Why didn't NBC news report that on tonight's broadcast? If the energy company had posted a profit, that would have been reported. It seems to me that losses are news worthy, too.
Do you really believe that. The loss simply means they only made 1 billion rather than 5 billion. No oil company will ever loose money! Lets guarentee them 8% return and the rest shall go to pay off the debt!
This quarter last year the oil companies were posting record profits - in the BILLIONS. This 62 percent 'loss' from last year means that they are not making record breaking profits, just HUGE profits. I think I will cry them a river next time I fill up as I think of my paycheck and investments that have gone down.
The national news yours included no longer gives us any news over and over you have lied pushed the corporate agenda you lied about the wars you lie about health care you promote corporate interest's generly deaceve the american public on important issues Brian Williams and the rest of the talking heads sould be ashamed of there performance and do us a faver and quit!!!!!!!!
wow, your venom is exceded only by your bad grammer and spelling. I agree that the national news is less than complete. It is diffucult to present both sides of a story in tiny bursts. If you get cable stations try watching BBC News. I watch both NBC and BBC and, although the stories they cover are the same, the way those stories are presented are miles apart. Check it out Brian.
I agree FarmGirl - american corporate media have, for the most part, stopped doing thier jobs. Many think that american media is liberal but the truth is it is corporate and the filter is ultimately through the corporate lens. That's why I watch BBC, PBS and other non-MSM outlets. All Americans need to step outside the bubble and see us as the rest of the world does. An unexamined life is not worth living and an unexamined worldview leads to a country not worth keeping.
Maybe farmgirl needs to check her spelling as well. People shouldn't throw stones in glass houses farmgirl.
Even with reluctance, I've continued to watch your coverage of the Gates/Crowley/Obama story. Even though you've devoted at least 60 minutes of airtime to this tempest in a teapot, there has yet to be a story about Professor Gates behavior leading up to his arrest.
Based on NBC coverage of this non-event, it would appear that if one is black, one falls outside the rule of law (provided someone who is white is involved), as well as outside the law of civil behavior.
And does NBC really expect anyone to believe that so-called story would have ever seen the light of day, much less an hour of news coverage, if the offender hadn't been black and the arresting officer white?
How does anyone at NBC expect to be taken seriously these days? What a waste of airtime and bandwidth.
I agree. I'm getting very tired of the constant reverse discrimination.
I'm thankful Michael Jackson's doctor is black, or we'd be hearing about racist motives in that case too.
I'm sorry but it is entirely within my right to be able to say anything - ever hear of the first amendment?- and if I say it in my own house to whomever is there is certainly within my rights. I would be livid if a police officer were in my home, whatever the reason, and then arrested me for what I said! GET REAL! Are police officers so thin skinned that they can not tolerate being yelled at? Once it was determined that Gates was in his own house the whole reason for Crowley to be there is GONE. Officer Crowley then should have left immediately.
I don't know any Native American personally, but I think that the Presidential Medal of Freedom being given Dr. Joe Medicine Crow is a wonderful thing. Far too often have the Native Americans been overlooked for their sacrifices to this country, which was once theirs exclusively, if you recall.
With respect to your story of last week when a white woman said that she wanted her country back and the group recited the Pledge of Allegiance with her. Someone ought to remind her and her cohort that this country belongs to the Native Americans which the whites stole from them. If anyone should get their country back, it should be the Native Americans!!!
To the story of the day: The woman who called herself a neighbor of Prof. Gates and then called the police about the "break-in". It seems strange that this woman does not even know who lives next door to her but was concerned enough to report the "break-in". Maybe she's just moved in the neighborhood or she's just a racist. In my neighborhood, I noticed that there are a handful of blacks, whites, and mostly Asians. I know who lives in close proximity to me!!!
Better get the whole story yvett. The lady was passing by and Professor Gates elderly neighbor asked her to call the police because two men were breaking in to the professor's house. The poor woman was trying to help and has been assailed as a racist by all sorts of left wing looney toons. She didn't report the race of the people breaking in until the 911 operator asked. She said one of the men might be Hispanic. Neither man was Hispanic but the lady who was making the call is. Now, please explain how that makes her a racist.
You probably know who your neighbors are because you always have your nose in their business.
whatareuthinking,
Your screen name says it all. Your comment makes no sense.
I am the mother of a 15 year old boy. I am concerned that NBC Nightly News and the Today Show is giving publicity to a 7 year old who was driving a car so he avoid going to church. Do you really think that kind of behavior should be rewarded with a free trip to New York and 15 minutes of fame on TV??? On the same news broadcast you only had time to highlight 4 of the people who were awarded a Medal of Freedom!!! Difficult to teach your children to make the right choices in life with these kind of examples.
We make a point of watching Brian every week night mostly in real time vs. dvr. Whereas we really enjoy his presentation, the type of commercials are really a put off and not appropriate for prime time viewing. I am so tired of hearing about erectile dysfunction. This is the only news that I find appropriate for children to watch and you have to talk about SEX in your commercials. At one point, I thought that the network had decided that these were not going to be shown during prime time.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE stop these commericals!!!!
I agree, the only sponsors of ANY network's nightly news is always the DRUG COMPANIES! Their tired commercials are 1/2 benefits, 1/2 risks! They sound too much like tired, used-car commercials full of fast-talking disclaimers. Do the Drug Companies also "OWN" the networks (in reality?)
I agree. The commercials are totally inappropriate for the time of day. I also wonder if the drug companies own the networks.
Also I'd like the news to do some actual investigative work on health care reform. I'm interested in it- but I want to know the truth about it. I don't want to hear from special interest group (i.e. drug company) commercials that reform is evil. Nor do I want to hear from politician commercials saying it is good or bad. Just the facts please so that I can decide for myself.
If it's only about the government being willing to sell us the same health insurance that congress gets to buy - well hey that sounds pretty fair to me. I don't think this reform is really universal coverage, is it? And in truth - what really is bad about it? I don't want to hear rumors. Give me the actual line in the bill I need to look at and the link to get to it. That will help. I don't want to see commercials or hear political crap.
I'm tired of working my rear off to support lazy people, but at the same time don't want to lose out because a bunch of special interest groups are afraid they'll go out of business.
Just the facts, and less crap - please.
Thanks.
Cash for Clunkers has been suspended because the gov't couldn't handle the overwhelming response to the program. This program gave much needed life to the economy, consumers and the ailing auto industry. But being gov't run, it didn't stand a chance for success!! And you want the gov't to provide your health care??? Wake up people!!
Dear NBC Nightly News:
While the news you report is often rather depressing (not your fault as most news tends to be, though you can choose what to report on), I really enjoy the 20 minutes I spend on most weekday evenings watching your program with Brian Williams. I have two comments regarding recent events.
First of all, the story about Professor Gates & Sergeant Crowley which you chose to air on Nightly news just after it happened should never have received the coverage it did. It seems that the media (at least NBC Nightly News) was choosing to throw gasoline on a bunch of sparks, trying to make a big story about a minimal incident. While I largely support & agree with President Obama, he was as unwise to comment on this story as reporters & news media have been to cover it. PLEASE LET IT GO & STOP COVERING THIS STORY!
Secondly, night after night after night when George Bush Jr. was unfortunately again our president, NBC Nightly news was covering the war in Iraq -- with a justifyable bias on its senselessness, indicating that the U.S.A. has no business or really justifiable purpose for being over there and should withdraw. Now that Barack Obama is President, why do you not still give the Iraq War the same coverage with continued indirect prodding (a dose of wisdom to politicians) to end this purposeless war and withdraw NOW? In today's Chicago Tribune toward the back of the first section is a story about U.S. Colonel Timothy Reese urging early withdrawel from Iraq. From what I have read, the U.S. has 130,000 troops in Iraq now (an average of 2,600 from every state) and Obama wants to keep 35,000-50,000 troops there between August 2010 (targeted date for significant reduction) & December 2011 (targeted final pullout date). While we surely have other problems with our economy, unemployment, health care, etc. ... it seems to me that the best solution to the Iraq War is simple -- CUT OUR LOSSES & END IT. How do you eat an elephant? One bight at a time. How do you end a war? Withdraw, one group of troops at a time. If you asked 100 people (whether common citizens or members of Congress) to explain the real purposes of the United States going into and then continuing to remain in Iraq ... the answers you would receive would likely be all over the place and very fuzzy with little substance. Better yet, why not get a panel of experts (high-ranking U.S. Military officials) to have a panel discussion to explain the purposes for & wisdom of continued U.S. presence in Iraq? Coverage of such would be truly newsworthy event.
BE POSITIVE---
Since there is so much writing, I cannot tell that you like anything or anybody either. There must be something positive so that people can anchor their thoughts. People really do like to be "for" ideas. Express your thanks to something regardless of your critisizms.
ORGANIZE MORE---
But your form is terrible. With your passion, you really want to be heard. But you have to remember that people do not measure pertinence by the pound. Could you help us out with this one? Split it out in topics. Introduce one and transition to the other. You do any effort at education a disservice when your thoughts are unorganized.
I am just trying to be constructive.
i would like to see the msm cover stuff like . . the rotchilds, federal reserve, bilderbergs, cfr, skull and bone, members of obamas cabinet who are bilderberg members, stuff that REALLY matters. . . but I guess since the members of them groups are running msm It will never happen. . .
Andrew Cuomo came out with the results of an investigation on bank and financial inst giving bonuses worth more than profits. But not a mention on your "news' reports. FOX lies and distorts...NBC just doesn't report news. GE, NBC's parent and handler lies and ditorts through omission. THANK GOD FOR THE INTERNET.
July was the deadliest month in Afganistan, where was your coverage showing all the caskets, faces and names of the fallen? You certainly showed them night after night before.
Where are all the "clunkers" going. Is anybody keeping track. I can see a lot of dealers wholeselling out the back door and then back on the street.
Here's one answer to your question, Stan:
Tracing the junking of a ‘clunker’ Aug. 8: The popular car purchase program blew through its entire budget in less than a week as new car buyers flocked to dealerships – but what happens to all their old gas guzzlers? NBC’s Lee Cowan reports. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032619/vp/32342718#32342718
This evening I watched a segment on a young women collecting school items and clothing from the United States businesses and giving them to children in Africa I believe. I have been an educator for 18 years in poverty stricken suburbs of Chicago. We have children that can not afford school uniforms and simple school supplies. It would be wonderful for those whom want to help other countries to think about OUR CHILDREN IN THE USA!!
Here is the PERFECT " CASH FOR CLUNKERS PROGRAM"
If you buy a FORD, CHRYSLER, or GM Vehicle, you qualify.
Foreign cars purchases do not qualify.
We need to help the US ECONOMY, not other countries manufacturers.
VW, BMW, MERCEDES didnt get the bailout money. GM and CHRYSLER did. Make sense??
Thanks
Vince
How about picking on the oil company to help pay the bill Vince?
If the post office is in so much trouble then why did Potter get a raise and bonus? Instead of cutting services I know where I'd start cutting!
Potter's base salary rose from $186,000 in 2007 to more than $260,000 last year. On top of that, he received a "performance" bonus of $135,000. Between Potter's salary, bonuses, retirement benefits and other perks, total compensation was more than $850,000.
The USPS definitely should close excess post offices. Send a news crew to the town of Johnsburg, New York. with fewer than 2600 residents this town has six post offices. Yes; 6! Three of the six are located within a 5 mile section of road. We need just one post office. If this town has such a high level of waste, just imagine how many other towns have similar unnecessary post offices. I'd quickly give up these post offices to keep postage costs down and keep delivery available 6 days per week. This is a $500K boondoggle!
Healthcare
I was downsized in 1987. I had to pay $288,000 for my healthcare until I went on Medicare. During this time I also had to pay taxes that bought healthcare for 85% of the people in this country like government workers, military and any company provided tax exempt healthcare plans. Put all the money in one pot, to pay for healthcare, so the self employed do not have to pay twice!
Mr. Williams:
I tried to access the list of those post offices which are on the list on your website of those offices to be closed, and I was not able to download the list of offices to be closed. I tried several times, and I was never successful downloading the file.
I am not sure, if there is a problem with my computer or with the msnbc website, but I was never able to pulll up the list.
I did hear on our local news that there was only one post office in New Orleans that was on the list. Obviously, they were able to have access to the list. Whether it was from your website or not, I do not know.
I just thought that you might want to know that at lesast one member of the general public was not able to access the list on your website.
Respectfully,
Keefe Hecker
Resident, New Orleans, LA
Hello Keefe - here's that list:
http://www.prc.gov/prc-docs/home/whatsnew/Station%20and%20branch%20list_120.pdf
tried to look at Posty Office closures 3 times and failed to get threw to the site. I think it was Einstein who said the def of insanity is doing the same thing over and expect dif results.... The PO treats their people like crap and wonders why its loosing money... wanna know why its loosing $$$$ just ask me. Management practices. IE They say it costs less to ship a letter from lmira to Rochester and return it to Elmira for delivery... transportation costs alone is astronomical. Another one is that it is cheaper to work the people they have overtime and pay them than it is to hire a new worker. Another mgt practice that is dead wrong and either they are complete idiots or are running it into the ground on purpose. How many bosses vs workers they have???? How about bonuses????? Come on NBC... do some investigative reporting....
As a postal worker, I have to wonder about the cost cutting measures mentioned in tonight's broadcast(which I agree with) without saying anything about eliminating any of USPS's top heavy administration...at the very least, furlough's without pay, for anyone not directly handling mail.
My dad watches NBC Nightly News every night. I started to watch it with him when I was in about 6th grade. (I have fond memeories!) Then I continued to watch it on my own, even when my dad couldn't. I am now a sophmore in high school. It is good to get word news. And news about real things happening as oppose to stuff about shootings and all the sad news. Aggreed that sometimes you brodcast sad events like Micheal Jackson's death and killings in Iraq, but I guess that is part of the news. But what I like is you add in other intresting topics. I especially love the Making a Difference segment. It always cheers me up to see people helping out the nation! Keep brodcasting Nightly News! I love it!
Your 8/4 Nightly News story about the "Cash for Clunkers" program was inaccurate and promoted foreign auto makers, ignoring the fact that the NUMBER 1 car being purchased as part of the program is the Ford Focus! You also neglected to say that the Ford Escape is the number 5 most purchased car. Your story only discussed how foreign auto sales made up more than half of the trade-ins. Nice job promoting foreign auto makers and neglecting to announce the accomplishments of the domestic ones.
