Can you please tell me why Senator Obama does not salute our flag? There is a photo circulating showing him, Hillary and John Edwards, all are saluting except Senator Obama.
Why? Do we want a president who doesn't honor our flag? I really like him, but this turns me off.
My question that was in the e-mail was Why won't Senator Obama salute the American Flag???
There is a photo circulating that shows him and Hillary and John Edwards at a ceremony and
he was the only one who didn't salute. It makes me uncomfortable. Thank you
I'm excited to see that he answered my question (the last one about Web 2.0) but I'm also surprised that he answered it, because in my rush to submit after an early invite to nightly on Newsvine, I (for whatever reason) thought he was going to take question and ask the candidates to answer them. When I realized that they were questions for Brian Williams, I thought for sure mine would be dismissed.
So, my question wasn't really easy for him to answer (or possible for him to answer, really) but he did what he could with it -- so, thank you.
No shout out, but it was still a neat story and neat to see some of our members featured.
It appears, contrary to my opinion, Brian Williams and NBC may be ready for the Big Time on Newsvine. Thanks to Newsviners for asking appropriate questions. Loved yours Brian Ford.
That was a pretty good question. Ironically enough, from what I've seen, most of the canidates who're fairly into Web 2.0 are Ron Paul and the former canidate Dennis Kucinich.
My guess on why the main canidates don't use it as much is because they feel they don't need it. I mean, if it weren't for stuff like MySpace and, well, Newsvine, Ron Paul wouldn't be anywhere near the public radar, but because of it, he now has some small chance at winning rather than none.
But I think the main canidates could only improve their chances with that kind of stuff--after all, it's pratically the same as meet and greets in the states their caucusing, but on a national level.
Actually, Obama built much of his early campaign on his social website... Now, I don't know how much he uses myspace or facebook, but I thought (at the time) that it was neat that he had created his own social home for the primaries. I asked the question because I started to feel as though he (and most of the candidates) were using the social-web without understanding it. Part of that was sparked by the John McCain / Mike Davidson "Myspace-gate" that we're all familiar with.
How about that! I wonder if Sandie Seward knows her question was answered?
I'll go email her.
I already did...
Yes, thank you to all the members who e.mailed me to let me know. I really appreciate your thoughtfulness.
Fantastic Sandie, you were so worried about not being in the loop enough and you were in the top tier!
glad you enjoyed hearing from Brian. We hope to do this frequently so please keep submitting questions.
Hetep and Respect Samsing, This was very interesting, questions from regular people at NV being answered on the air. I am starting to feel like I am missing something if I don't get to the Nightly news group in some organized periodic fashion.
I knew about the Nightly News discussion, but I didn't know that Brian Williams was answering questions. Very cool. Does this get aired? I don't usually watch the news at night (only the late local news from time to time), as I commute when it is on. And, really, staying in tune with the 'Net usually provides the news I care about far quicker than traditional mediums.
That being said -- May I join the group, please? :)

Welcome!
DamianKD et al: The question responses are web-only at this point, but they also appear outside of Newsvine on the main NBC Nightly News site at nightly.msnbc.com.
I saw the video on my MSNBC home page. That was cool.
That was pretty cool, I second the earlier question - was this aired on TV?
A technical question - are we going to get tags for the nightly stories, or the ability to clip them to our columns?
Finally, a thank you to the Nightly News team for putting this together.
If this airs on TV we will only get inundated!
Very, very cool. Makes you feel like someone is really listening, eh? I like it.
Very, very cool. Makes you feel like someone is really listening, eh? I like it.
Careful now lauhal, you don't want your community of viners to feel like chopped liver! *smirk*
Haha! I meant big media. I know nobody listens to me! ;)
I know nobody listens to me! ;)
There are coffee soaked keyboards, victims of laughing around the globe that says they do!
Really brilliant. It's great to get a mention on air, and, if it is broadcast, then stand by to repel Boarders!!!! Marvellous.
:) May I have your autograph?!
Join the queue, Lauhal, join the queue!
Curb the enthusiasm. It is only web published so far.
Good point. It would never do to get too excited at the fact that one of the main faces of Mainstream News is devoting time and resources to addressing your questions.
...
C'mon, man, this is sort of a big deal. It's sure a good-will gesture from the MSNBC folks and it shows that they're taking this newsvine thing seriously. Participatory news is going to be the only viable news in the next few years and I think they are ahead of the curb - they probably are putting a lot more thought into you than you are putting into them, man.
Sorry, but having my question picked and then read by Brian Williams is cool to me, even if it's not a big deal.
I don't want, ask or expect you to fight for my rights. You should probably "fight" elsewhere, as you're "fighting" on a website owned by the company you're apparently fighting against.
But, just because you seem so pumped up about it -- what rights are you fighting for, again?
I was responding to those that were not clear about whether it was broadcast on TV. It is a good start.
Brian does periodically respond to audience e-mail on the air; but in this case, he's very deliberately engaging w/ the newsvine community.
I am a die-hard Broncos fan and have been having a difficult time deciding on a team to root for in the Super Bowl. I dislike both teams. For different reasons, each. Then, I heard Brian Williams mention that he was a big fan of the New York Giants. This was enough for me to forgive the Giants for whipping my Broncos in the 1987 Super Bowl. GO GIANTS!!!
It might not seem such a "Big Deal" to some people, but anything that gets Newsvine more publicity has to be good.
Good for it's Contributors, (us), and good for the Vine, not to mention good for the future of Citizen Journalism generally.
It is very cool indeed.
Now that I see the format they are going to respond in, it helps to think about how I want to formulate questions. Maybe, instead of the current format, the moderators should hold a discussion comment thread where we can collaborate and vote on the best questions we want to see answered.
Great idea
I agree, then it becomes an interaction with the community instead of with a random group of people.
Thanks :)
Very cool! I really like the interaction and look forward to watching this unfold more closely.
And just to echo the clarification, this wasn't on the broadcast... it was, however, also on the Nightly News Website and the MSNBC homepage (aside from the Nightly Discussion Club).
Someday, hopefully!! :)
Which one of the NBC reporters will be the last to get the pronounciation of Boise, ID correct?
The correct pronounciation is Boy cee not Boy zee. Get it right please.
There are two ways that you can pronounce my Surname as well......"SEAWARD" or "SUARD".
Brian pronounced it the latter (posher) way, but either way is fine by me.
Which one of the NBC reporters and anchors will be the last to get the pronounciation of Boise, ID correct.
The correct pronounciation is Boy cee not Boy zee. We here in this capital city are Americans not French. You finally have gotten Pierre, SD right so why is it so difficult to get Boise right.
In all the news and from congress, everyone it would seem says the only way to bailout the auto industry is for the unions to concede their high pay and benefit packages which is considered a massive drain of the finances. No where in the bailout, from auto to the Financial industries is there a mandate for reduction of the cost of CEO's, company bonus, and so called meetings at high end resorts? Why? The ridicule of using 3 business jets to bring the CEO's before congress were not near as expensive as unwarranted bonuses for the Financial sector. Seems they are placing requirements for money on the Big 3 to restructure itself, but not Wall Street. It would seem America is still a country of double standards.
