In my humble opinion a decision on Afghanistan is now overdue short of new intelligence, made public, justifying further delay. Lately, I have gotten the sense that we are not being told the full story.

Well-- OK.IMO we haven't been told the full story for quite a while (and this precedes Obama)...but I guess that lately more and more people are beginning to realize it!

I don't know.
But my guess is that the situation there is "impossible" (I think the Russians would agree-- they tried before we did...)
Perhaps the western presence via Bagram and other regional bases is an effort to forestall the further territorial expansion of a radicalized Islam. India does not want it and especially China fears it.
Ah-- becoming serious about Afghan security-- interesting concept...I will be curious to see how this novel idea actually works out...(actually it sounds like it might be a good idea...taking things seriously..)
